The Amarillo school board ordered an election for October 15 on a 459000 debt proposal to finance a new high school and ward school equipment. Four members attended the meeting while others were absent ill. The plan also notes expansion from fourteen to twenty rooms and rising enrollment projections for the year.
In Hereford Texas on September 21 a farm tractor exploded burning three youths. Arol Combs 20 led the way dragging two younger boys Albert Combs 10 and W B Wallace 10 who died later. Arol and the Wallace boy perished within hours. Funeral services set for the Combs boys at Sleveford and for Wallace at Canyon.
In Oppau near Mainz a massive blast at the Badische Anilin Fabrik nitrous sulphate storehouse leveled the town. Death toll unclear, with hundreds injured and trains buried. French medical units aid rescue as crowds rush to the scene. In Belton Texas, A C Bauer, 35, dies after drinking acid by mistake at a drug store.

Texarkana reports the killing of J. M. Thompson of Annona Red River county at his son in law Alvis Baumgarner’s home. Baumgarner was arrested and released on $500 bond. In Denver an oil operator shot and wounded Hazel Van Meter before suicide.

The Texas Motel Association protested a proposed 16 percent hotel tax in a tax revision bill before Congress. Through its president Tyrell and secretary BRL Pamkis, the group telegrammed Texas senators urging opposition to the measure as unfair to hotel owners in Texas.
