A seven year old Amarillo boy, Anthony Lerke, drowned Sunday while fishing with his brother in the Palisades south of Amarillo. His body was found near the boxcar bridge by Canyon volunteer firefighters and Randall County deputies. He was staying with his grandmother along the Palisades with his brother Steven. Funeral services will be announced by Boxwell Bros Funeral Directors.

Panic Strikes As Cable Car Rolls Backward
SAN FRANCISCO AP Panic struck Sunday as a cable car carrying 36 persons plunged backwards down Hyde Street hill toward the bay. Sixteen leaped from platforms to the pavement. inside, 20 were thrown to the floor or held by handholds until an emergency brake stopped the car. Seven women and two men were treated at Harbor Emergency Hospital for cuts and shock. One bystander, Joseph Ruiz, 4, was outside when the grip failed and recalls the car slipping and people shouting jump.
