Amarillo Public Schools will close all day Monday to allow students to attend the Tri-State Fair. Amarillo College will stay open with no lab classes, enabling student attendance. Bands and delegations will be escorted into town for parades on Monday, Thursday and Friday.

Operation Yields Swallowed Spoon Removed
In Passaic New Jersey a 19 year old girl Miss Ann Malick of Little Falls had an oversized six and a half inch teaspoon removed from her upper intestine at Beth Israel Hospital. Dr Anton Randazzo said the spoon was swallowed about a month earlier and the operation was performed yesterday with the patient reported in good condition today.

Poker club slaying leaves Phillips jailed without bond
Alex F. Phillips, 34, of 1001 Bonham, held without bond in Potter County jail on murder charges after allegedly shooting Glenn Wilson, 43, at the Sportsmen's Club in Amarillo. Wilson died at St. Anthony's Hospital from four gunshot wounds as police described a late night poker game dispute. Phillips, who surrendered after an anonymous call, reportedly faced no witnesses and claimed the gun was his. Autopsy pending. Wilson survived by his wife and two daughters.

27 Forced To Jump From Doomed Airplane Over Luzon
