Thousands from a three state area flocked to the Tri State Fair’s opening night. California Varsity Eight singers perform in the Cavalcade of Hits while Cavalcade of Hills showcases an Indian dance. Beutler Brothers rodeo features calf roping as about 6000 spectators watch the action.
The Tri-State Fair opened with W Lee O Daniel and family among honored guests. Attendance set records as Beutler Brothers Rodeo drew 6000 and Cavalcade of Hits drew a large crowd. Gov Clyde Tingley praised Amarillo amid sunny skies while Hollywood notables Movita Carroll and Jack Randall appeared.
J Wright Mooar of Scurry County, famed buffalo hunter, arrived at the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo with companions T S McDonnell and J C Chamberlain. Mooar, who killed over 20 000 buffalo since 1870, spoke of driving hides to Fort Griffin and his early Plains hunting era. The piece notes his influence on buffalo hide markets and a past sighting of buffalo where Amarillo's business district now stands.
Czechoslovak engineers accelerate interior fortification work while Britain and France urge Prague to accept plans to cede the Sudeten region to Germany. Prague seeks time to present its case, asking if France would honor the Franco Czechoslovak treaty in case of Nazi aggression. The issue widens as leaders push for a quick decision.
Packed crowds filled the 6,500 seats for the opening Cavalcade of Hits in Amarillo. Governor-elect W. Lee O Daniel and his hillbilly band appeared before the show, receiving a tremendous ovation as Monogram Studio stars John Carroll Jack Randall and Movita headlined the upcoming performance. The Hardin Simmons Cowboy Band also performed Eyes of Texas before the governor and daughter Mollie joined the center stage with the hillbilly group. Continued on Page 11 Col 3.
West Texas State College marks the start of its 29th long session with the largest freshman class in school history. More than 300 freshmen registered before enrollment paused until Tuesday as sophomores and upperclassmen begin arriving.
Former Governor Talmadge announced he had filed contests in seven Georgia counties against the Democratic primary result where Walter F. George won the senatorial nomination. He said further plans contests in 25 to 30 more counties.

Livestock judging continues, Beutler Brothers rodeo starts at 2, fireworks follow the show, and Old Settlers Day features delegations from Panhandle towns. The Panhandle Old Settlers Association holds its 24th annual meeting with Jerry Mann speaker. The next attorney general joins J Wright Mooar of Snyder for the program.

Movita John Carroll Jack Pandall and Frances Castaneda join nightly Cavalcade of Hits shows drawing capacity crowds as Randall and Carroll joke about hotel beds and Texas Ranger ambitions.
