An out of town crowd filled the Tri-State Fair with packed departments and capacity crowds for every major attraction. The exposition continues to draw visitors as attendance climbs. Today’s events include the Old Settlers 20th annual meeting in McLean.

Washington reports a 20000 rise in strikeidle workers despite efforts to reopen southern mills. United Textile Workers votes to call out up to 100000 more in unaffected divisions, possibly by Monday. AP tally shows 421000 workers in mills, with disputed figures from both sides. Continued on Page 13.
Dire need grips Nome Alaska as most buildings burn leaving 1500 residents homeless and foodless. Government forces and Red Cross mobilize relief while three Coast Guard cutters rush to deliver supplies. Arctic winter looms and isolation possible for six weeks or more.
A record attendance is expected at the Tri-State Fair today. Old Settlers Day and Oklahoma Day feature a 12:15 circus parade through the central business district and a 2:30 racing meet start. Dairy cattle and Duroc swine judging proceed as delegations from Oklesioma visit with E. W. Marland as guest.
Tulsa and Borger with bands and Oklahoma delegations anticipate record crowd attendance today rivaling Tuesday. Livestock breeders from across the Southwest judge Hereford classes with notable herds on display. Herbert Chandler of Baker Oregon Co M Largent & Sons Merkel Texas Robert H Hazlett of El Dorado are among exhibitors.
Fort Worth aviator Mrs. Mary Owens Campbell returns from Chicago with partner Jean La Rene after failed endurance flight attempts for women. She cites fog and poor weather, saying Chicago did not have such conditions all summer.
Panhandle Old-Timers gather at the Tri-State Fair for their annual round up. The session requires twenty five years residence and will be held in the Sam B. Dill and Tom Mix Circus tent. Tom Mix will be initiated into the Panhandle Old Settlers Association.
In Austin on September 18 the defense for Claude Pollard lost a bid for an acquittal. Judge W F Robertson overruled the motion as jurors hear a week of state evidence. Moody Batts argued the motion while Hart opposed it. Night sessions were ordered as witnesses are set to testify tomorrow focusing on Pollard’s alleged knowledge.
The Sam B Dill and Tom Mix Circus will parade on Polk Street today at 12 15 PM and again Saturday at the same hour. Performances continue twice daily at the Tri State Fair grounds through Saturday night.
In Amarillo the News Globe Balanced Farm Contest will crown the Master Balanced Farmer of the Panhandle Plains region for 1934 at a luncheon hosted by the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce at the Herring Hotel. Gold medal and cash prizes await the top winner with silver medals for the next nine high scorers.
Forecast shows Wednesday fair with higher temperatures across Amarillo and West Texas, with warmer conditions in the northern portions. New Mexico also expected to remain fair with little temperature change. Hourly readings from yesterday indicate temperatures near 80s to 100s as daytime highs and cooler nights.
Tucumcari plans a 500 strong delegation to the Tri-State Fair aboard a 10 coach special train leaving at 8 am Friday and arriving Amarillo at 10 45 am. Governor Hockenhull leads the party and will be joined by his official staff and receptions committee including W J Kelly FE R Thompson Hubert G Cole Herman Clutter Bill Futral and Bill Conway. New Mexico Day will also feature delegations from Portales Clovis Raton and Clayton arriving by auto.
The League of Nations Assembly officially admitted Russia as a member as Maxim Litvinoff, Russia’s foreign minister, said the nation joins as a representative of a new social system that will renounce none of its attributes and that Russia hosts 200 nationalities living in peace.
The Public Works Administration allotted $2,952,900 for non federal projects. The funds are expected to provide about a month of work for 9,960 laborers on sites and similar work in allied industries. Grants and loans include Texas Pilot Point Handley Nacogdoches Austin sums across paving sewage water dormitory and market tending projects.
Governor Ferguson’s poll shows about 104 House members inclined to back a new oil commission bill if a special session is convened. Lawmakers cited possible revival of oil commission and tax measures, with relief bonds possibly vetoed. Representatives Hartzog and James announced results, noting the governor seeks a clear path to passage before calling a session.
In Austin the legislature paused relief bond progress as conferees were not yet named for the relief bond bill. Senate action included a tax remission bill for 10 Brazos River counties as part of flood control plans. debate remained tight at 13 to 12. Governor Feeenison added new measures to the docket.
Chicago Sept 16 A P reports revived on plans to merge Auburn Auto and several independents after E L Cord former Cord Corp president hurriedly visited. Cord returned from Europe amid speculation and officials declined to comment. Firms named include Pierce Arrow Reo and Hupmobile. merger would place Cord among four large makers with GM Ford and Chrysler.
John Burson former president of the now closed First National Bank of Silverton testifies in United States District Court that a bank examiner and a Dallas chief examiner approved adjustments after a bookkeeping error. The indictment accuses him of misappropriating 5240.65 tied to a real estate sale and an accommodation note while alleging 900 went to his personal account.
