Abilene Sept 18 Tom Ross cattleman was sentenced to 20 years in the state penitentiary for the murder of H L Roberson cattle inspector after a jury deliberated 95 hours. The state rested this afternoon in the trial of Milt Good for Robersons slaying with defense testimony set to follow.
Oklahoma lawmakers push to convene a special session to impeach Governor J. C. Walton over his martial law decree. Supporters report sixty four House members favor the call and may file the petition awaiting governor's consent or a majority action, while Walton vows to jail any who attempt to meet without his order. Soldiers guard the capitol as tensions rise with the state fair later lifting a ban amid military control.
Mountain States Gas Company of Amarillo filed with the Railroad Commission for authority to build a carbon black plant in the Amarillo gas field and asked for an extensive field investigation. Officials indicated the application will likely be denied, as similar filings in the district have not been granted.
The Texas attorney general's department reached a final conclusion on the text book fund controversy after a conference. The state board of education may receive funds for textbooks tomorrow and the governor is expected to call a board meeting to vote on rescinding the action, a vote that may be decided by the governor if Board member Marks opposes rescinding. The board is expected to refuse to recall the funds.
Austin reports funds from state eleemosynary and educational institutions were moved to the general revenue fund after Attorney General ruling that they were special funds. The act abolished all special funds, and today transfers totaled 143000 dollars.
The Attorney General's Department ruled that federal game laws prevail when conflicts arise with state laws, while state laws are enforceable when seasons extend longer than those under.

Mrs. James Liston Sr testifies in the murder trial of John Hallam in Fort Worth criminal district court. She describes her husband James Liston being shot to death on November 24, 1917 after a stranger summoned him to the rear of their home. She rushed to aid him as two gunshots rang out, then men looted his pocket as he lay mortally wounded.

W. BD Townsend, longtime Texas Secretary of State and Fort Worth financed commissioner, died today at Fort Worth City Hall after a nervous breakdown led to pneumonia. He had served four years in city government and was stricken while in his office.
