American Marines closed in on Seoul after taking Kimpo airfield and moving toward the Han River seven miles from the city. US combat engineers pressed efforts to build a bridge over the Han River.
The 1950 Tri-State Fair opens with ceremonies at Amarillo Stadium highlighting the region’s role in national defense. Lt Gen Ernest Thompson will present colors to Col Selden Simpson as the 142nd Infantry and 36th Division march in the downtown parade.
Ninety year old Tri State Fair coverage highlights top culinary winners in Amarillo. Yolanda Ellis of the Plainview to Tula area captured 32 blue ribbons and 8 red in 4-H canning with wide participation. Mrs Robert L Cooper of Santa Fe NM led with 128 total entries and 31 blue ribbons in the culinary show plus two textile exhibits. Cooper drove 300 miles from Tucumcari in their old Plymouth.
