Jo Ann Pinnell, 20, of Dalhart is the latest entrant in the Queen of the Tri-State Fair contest sponsored by The News-Globe and the Tri-State Fair. She will reign during fair week October 4 to 9 and represent the area in the American Royal Queen contest in Kansas City October 15. The News-Globe provides 250 dollars for wardrobe. Judging September 29 in Amarillo will consider bathing suit and evening dress plus personality and talent.

Suella Spock a 6 year old bulbar polio victim from Slaton has a tracheotomy and iron lung with condition improving but critical. Boyd Sanders 8 of Pampa is not too serious. Leroy Swan 17 of Amarillo was readmitted after two weeks of treatment bringing total patients to 32, with three in iron lungs.

Funeral set for Panhandle cattleman Will F. Baird
Will F. Baird, 76, Pioneer cattleman and early Panhandle trail driver, will be laid to rest Saturday at 3 p.m. at First Christian Church in Canyon. Rev. Weems Dykes to officiate. He died Thursday in Canyon after residing there since 1920. He was born February in 1872 in Van Zandt County Texas. He moved to New Mexico in 1885 then returned to Texas to work on J. Mill Ranch east of Panhandle. Survived by widow, son W. J. Bill Baird, Amarillo, daughter Mrs. John L. McCarty, Amarillo, and three grandchildren. Burial in Dreamland Cemetery, Canyon.
