Liberal Kansas hosted a multi state celebration as Amarillo boosters completed a 152 mile rail link linking Amarillo to Liberal. Officials from three states attended after a 13 hour journey to mark the opening of a wholesale corridor that will boost cross state trade.
In a four state visit New Mexico Texas Oklahoma and Kansas Liberal closed for the night to stage a joint celebration with the Texans. Rock Island officials led the group welcoming Amarillo delegates who would ride the new road first linking Amarillo with the route. Continued on next page.
Cloudy to partly cloudy conditions with warmer temperatures across West Texas and New Mexico. Amarillo observes readings near 66 to 78 degrees, with the region expecting showers in the southwest portion and unsettled, warmer conditions in the northeast. Temperatures across listed cities vary from the 40s in some northern towns to the 90s in the coastal and southern zones, with a high of 88 to 90 degrees in several Texas locales and near 76 in El Paso.

Berlin Conn September 17 A Colonial Air Transport mail plane piloted by Henry H Tallman 32 of Bridgewood New Jersey crashed into Mount Lamentation and burned killing the pilot.

Prosecution seeks insanity defense rebuttal as youth prosecutor J Lee Dittert prepares to present for the state. The defense, led by Leo Brewster, argues mental illness and disease, with Judge Watson's charge outlining elements of robbery and defendants' awareness of actions and consequences. The case, tied to the Texas State Historical Association funds and Mrs Rogers's state government role, has involved multiple trials and a complex web of family and legal scrutiny.
The Austin Morris Company of Brownwood Texas had its renewal application rejected by the federal radio commission for failure to appear at hearings.
City commission orders a October 26 election on a $200000 bond to purchase land four miles southwest to build an addition to the water system. Bonds run 40 years at 5.4 percent interest. Governor Clyde Reed orders prosecution inquiry into claims by Jay E. House that he was served liquor in numerous Topeka homes. Eight subpoenas issued to hosts and officials as the investigation proceeds with Shawnee county authorities and the attorney general. House denies purchasing liquor in Topeka for over 20 years.
Ninfa Theobald an 18 year old El Paso high school student was shot after refusing an automobile ride offered by two Mexicans. One man named Jose Barrazo of Juarez was identified by her, and authorities believe the assailants escaped into Mexico. her condition was reported grave.
In Memphis a night session heard state testimony in the Bert Hall murder case tied to the December slaying of Hedley night watchman J. H. Richey during a failed store robbery. Key witnesses included Crockett Taylor who linked Hall to shotgun shell purchases and Jimmie Brown who provided details of the planned robbery.
In Hayward California on September 17 the intoxicated fruit buyer Joe Cataldi 70 shot and killed Officer George Vierra and wounded Constable Al La Cunha then held officers at bay for two hours from a barricaded residence. Tear bombs forced his retreat from the home where he was slightly wounded.
An attempt to rob the Blackwater Valley State bank in Muleshoe was discovered when officials found a hole large enough for a man to crawl into the vault. The vault door combination had been knocked off and discs beaten, suggesting a failed entry by amateurs. No theft occurred and no suspects were found.
Kansas City area report states A. J. Eichenberger marshal of Florence was shot while confronting three burglars. He died shortly after, giving a description of the trio before death. Wichita police searched for three strangers linked to the crime.
The Associated Press reports a severe intensity earthquake detected by Regis College seismograph in Denver. Seismographer Father Forstall said the tremor occurred at 1 50 p m Mountain Time and was of second degree intensity, located on the North American continent.
Willie Mitchell, a negro, pleaded guilty to two charges connected with disturbing graves in a Dallas cemetery. He received the maximum penalty of one thousand dollars in each case, with a two thousand dollar fine and a five hundred dollar fine.
Five hundred copies of yesterday afternoon's Amarillo Globe awaited the goodwill excursionists as the train arrived in Liberal. The papers were carried in a mono coupe from English Field by News telegraph editor Joe Cannon. A box of roses for Cunningham Flower Shop accompanied the delivery. Dawn brought the same plan as the home edition of the Amarillo News prepared to start to the special train before it leaves Liberal at 8 10 a. m. for the return trip on the new railroad line.
