In California City a heavy truck crashed into a Ford Coupe carrying Mrs. Emma Keller, 60, and Miss Marie Gammel, 18, turning the car over and trapping the victims. Marvin Mitchell escaped unharmed. Both women were taken to a sanitarium with broken bones and possible internal injuries. Miss Gammel works at Keller’s Smelter Hotel.
Four men are believed buried in the Mohawk river near Schenectady under wet concrete after scaffolding failure on the Great Western Gateway bridge. Kenneth Davidson the bridge construction superintendent is named among the dead or missing. Six other workers were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Hudson automobiles dropped 75 to 100 dollars effective at midnight Monday per a telegram to Toney Chisum of Amarillo the local Panhandle Plains distributor. Chisum said substantial reductions in recent years make Hudson cars more desirable for prospects.
Abilene September 17 Only one juror had been chosen by noon in the Milt Good murder case stemming from the Seminole killing of H L Roberson a cattle inspector. Tom Ross's trial for a similar offense was still out. The first juror selected was A B Embree, a Tuscola farmer, as many veniremen of 160 summoned said they held fixed opinions and were excused.

The Associated Press reports cotton prices rose sharply in New York as heavy rains in Texas and Oklahoma threaten the crop. Prices jumped 150 to 152 points, about $7.70 per bale, adding roughly $75 million to southern wealth and boosting export shipments from two Texas ports to Europe by about 177,000 bales, worth over $26 million at current prices.
State Senator R A Stuart representing a Fort Worth oil firm voiced protest to the state comptroller against the increased oil production tax for the quarter ending July 1. Two other oil companies have filed protests, signaling possible suit to challenge the attorney general ruling that the increased tax applies to April and May despite a June effective date.
Eight more Americans reported dead or missing in the Japanese quake were sent to the State Department from Kobe. Names include Mrs. T. W. Chisholm and child, P. C. Schefer, Mrs. Chamber, Mrs. Nora C. Hilton, Mrs. Shelley of Standard Company, Irvin Skootski, and Olga Milostawsky. The first seven were said to be dead. the last listed as missing.
Adjutant General T. D. Barton will review conditions surrounding alleged gambling and liquor violations in San Antonio. He left Austin to confer with rangers about arrests and information gathered in the past two weeks. After San Antonio, Barton will proceed to El Paso for national guard duties.
Oklahoma enters a second day under martial law with Tulsa and Oklahoma City under military activity. Military courts probe mob violence while officials reclaim police control in Oklahoma City as Governor Walton’s orders restrict traffic and disrupt court sessions.
The trial of Sheriff Whitaker on a grand jury indictment charging misconduct in office will begin at 9 o'clock in district court. The case, set for today, arose from a railroad worker assault incident. Attorneys Yeofie Mh Jackson and Johnson will represent Whitaker.
SCRANTON Sept 17 Anthracite mine workers in convention today ratified the new wage agreement between United Mine Workers representatives and coal operators and voted to return to work Wednesday morning. Mining has been suspended since Sept 1 when the old contract expired.
Associated Press reports in Austin that the Bonham delinquent tax act for collecting taxes is under review for constitutionality. Comptroller Lon A. Smith and R A. Grisham of Eastland discussed the act with the comptroller's department seeking a ruling.
Wayland College began its fifteenth year with the heaviest opening day registration in Plainview. About 250 students registered, with estimates rising to 300 by week’s end. Dormitories are full, seniors exceed fifty, juniors about double that.
Amarillo and vicinity Tuesday to be generally fair and colder. West Texas shows local showers with Tuesday generally fair colder. Eastern New Mexico unsettled with showers in the north portion and southeast portion with little temperature change. Temperatures by hours show highs around the upper 90s and lows near the 40s, with rain expected in the Amarillo area Saturday into Sunday. An atmospheric disturbance over the southwest produces rain across the valley and Plains States, with seasonal temperatures expected to dip in the northwest.
Nicaraguan Minguel II Sequeira did not appear for a Sunday address at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. A Berkeley resident reportedly recognized him as a suspicious lookalike from California, and he vanished by Monday night. Rector Rev. Robert N. MacCallum delivered an improvised sermon as locals sought explanations. Sequeira claimed to have ridden freights to Amarillo, lacked funds, and had sheltered with a local host.
Southeast Hunt and Northwest Rains counties faced a cloudburst with the heaviest downpour near Point northwest Rains county. Rain totaled up to 10 inches in an hour and a half, flooding Sabine river lowlands, three feet of water on Culberson highway, cutting telegraph links, and forcing residents of Point to higher ground amid no known fatalities.
Rains varying from one to several inches fell across north east central and west Texas today following weekend showers. Reports list Girvin Rankin Menard Brady Eden Miles Bronte and big rains at Big Lake Fort Stockton Sterling City and Blackwell. Central Texas saw heavy rain with about three tenths of an inch in Waco and many northern points including Dallas Fort Worth McKinney Sherman Paris and Terrell also reporting rain.
Waco reports 2.70 inches of rain since Saturday afternoon pushing September rainfall to 3.60 inches for the month. Heavy rains lash central Texas with farmers noting some cotton damage from recent days of downpour.
