Jimmie Murphy of Vernon California, a favorite for the 1924 Automobile Association championship, died after his car crashed through wooden fences on the 138th lap of a 150 mile race at the New York state fairgrounds Syracuse. Brother-In-Law Held After Farmer Slaying and Fire
Sam H Lewis, 79, a well to do farmer, was hacked to death with an axe on his Dewitt county farm near Terryville. Will Stapp, 60, his brother in law, was arrested and held after an examining trial found him of unsound mind and remanded to county jail without bond. State he killed Lewis because Lewis killed Stapp's mother about two years earlier. A mass burning of the body followed after smoke was spotted in a field by RE Carroll, son in law to Mrs Lewis.
