Panhandle Plains weather remained fair with mild temperatures expected. A trace shower occurred Saturday night. highs ranged from 71 to 93 degrees across Clayton, Roswell, and nearby towns. Amarillo forecasts 83 today with a low of 52, yesterday’s low 58, and northerly winds up to 23 mph morning, easing to 10 to 15 mph afternoon.

A St Louis native he founded Amarillo Hardware Co a major wholesale firm with 23 sales reps and 150 employees. He chaired the Chamber of Commerce and supported youth groups, Rotary, Boy Scouts, YMCA, and Children's Home. Survived by wife Florence Neely Hardin daughter Mrs Young Wilhoite Jr grandson Jim Wilhoite and sister Mrs Lyda Bittenbender. Funeral Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church Llano Mausoleum burial.

Seven Braxton County residents testified they saw a fire breathing, 10 foot tall monster with a green body and red face on a hilltop near Sutton West Virginia. Police doubted the creature’s existence, citing mass hysteria and a possible meteor or flying saucer sighting, while witnesses described a foul odor and skid marks on the hilltop.

Blood tests inconclusive in effort to prove father
In Sioux City Iowa two men Wilmur Johnson and Jilenn H Phillips claim to be the father of a motherless five year old boy. Blood tests show Phillips has A type blood the same as the boy and Johnson has O type. Officials hope mother Violet Phillips blood type will provide conclusive proof. The mother 24 was killed in an auto crash last month and had filed for divorce from Johnson in 1946 and 1947. Phillips who later married Violet Phillips seeks custody alleging paternity. Judge Forsling will hear the case after further test results arrive.
