Washington today reported that German Soviet negotiations in Moscow show Russian leaders ready to concede the price they seek to shift international relations. The deal with Chancellor Adenauer pledged Soviet release of German war prisoners in exchange for recognition and a West German diplomatic opening at Bonn.
West Germany and the Soviet Union agreed to establish diplomatic relations. Bonn hopes for the early release of German prisoners held by the Soviets in exchange for information and progress on prisoner repatriation. The surprise agreement ends postwar estrangement and was announced by Adenauer and Bulganin after the final talks.
The Wall Street Journal reports mechanical cotton pickers and harvesters expanding beyond cotton into lettuce nuts prunes melons and apricots.
