Feuding Texas Democrats fought in court to block or certify Dwight Eisenhower as a Democratic nominee on the Texas ballot. A district judge issued a temporary restraining order delaying certification by Secretary of State Jack Ross while arguments proceed.
Paralee Witt, 83, of Amarillo, travels to Eastern New Mexico University in Portales to begin fall art studies. She is the oldest student at the university after spending two months there this summer and plans to drive 130 miles if her granddaughter is not ready to depart. She paints still lifes and oils, compares to Grandma Moses, and began serious art after her husband died.

Sioux City Iowa September 1 blood test results were submitted in a paternity dispute over a five year old boy. Two men Wilma Lips and Johnson claim to be the father with testimony detailing marriages and custody. The boy’s mother died in an auto accident near Sergeant Bluff last month prompting custody actions and a habeas corpus filing. Blood samples were taken and test results will be presented in court Monday.
The Air Force ordered at least 12 new jet fighters and bombers into production replacing front line planes. The F-101 will escort bombers to distant targets, and Boeing’s B-52 is the eight engined bomber set to replace the B-36 as America’s atom bomb carrier. McDonnell Aircraft Corp. will build an undisclosed number of the new swept wing jets. The B-52, ordered in February 1951, has proven successful in tests, while the B-60 was shelved. The B-36 cruises at 435 mph, a slower speed in the jet era.
Chicago reports the Woodward Medical Personnel Bureau seeks a couple to tend a king’s harem for 50 000 dollars annually. The job requires a young doctor and a physician wife with no children. The king’s country remains secret and interest floods in from across the globe.
Pennsylvania police and FBI launch a large blockade targeting three armed jailbreakers who escaped from a Lewisburg penitentiary. Civil Air Patrol planes circle the Potomac mountains while Maryland police sweep Blue Ridge Mountain near Pen Mar. no trace of the fugitives has been found.

National and American League scores listed with several matchups and results. Weather forecast for Amarillo region calls for warmer Sunday and mild Monday with scattered showers possible.
The estranged husband Faye Chandler, 29, of Pampa, is held for investigation after a knife attack at Merrick’s Merrick home. George Merrick, 618 West Fifth, and Mrs Lamoine Chandler, 30, were treated for knife wounds. Mrs Chandler was in fair condition at Northwest Texas Hospital.
