Ongoing walkouts in New York and Detroit press for settlements as tens of thousands of teachers stay off the job. The disruption stretches through Tuesday with little clear progress toward returning staff to classrooms.
State Governor Connally will keynote the September 21 groundbreaking for Hill Chemicals Inc. fertilizer plant in Borger with a $45 million project. Leon Hill of the Bureau of Reclamation warned a one year delay before the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority can assume control from the government. The Texas Water Rights Commission delayed action on a Hereford man’s Palo Duro Creek dam permit amid three protests. Tulsa first-graders gain company as Huckabay triplets mark seven. Robert Henrich of Sharon created nine plastic cleaning-bags balloons using 18 birthday candles to rise above town causing panic after a 32 minute blackout. Police followed the balloons to Ohio before learning the stunt was to test launch feasibility. No charges were filed.
Alice Crimmins, 29, was arrested in New York and charged with first degree murder in the death of her 4 year old daughter Alice Missy Crimmins. A man is being sought in the case and Edmund Crimmins Jr. is still listed as under investigation. Crimmins pleaded innocent and posted $25,000 bail after arraignment.
New York News reports Frankie the Crooner clashed with Carl Cohen at the Sands Hotel where Cohen cut Sinatra’s credit. Sinatra tipped a table, was punched, and reportedly lost two teeth. Witnesses offered varied accounts of a wild weekend with further hotel incidents.
