Amarillo's master plan from over 25 years ago called for a civic center around a plaza between the courthouse and Municipal Auditorium. Maj. E. A. Wood proposed placing the civic center from Fillmore to Buchanan between 5th and 6th streets. No significant interest was shown in the idea at the time.

Governor Price Daniel will visit the Tri-State Fair on Saturday September 21 guest of honor for Governor's Day. The event includes a breakfast with Amarillo and Potter County officials, a Thunderbird display at the air base, lunch, Holiday on Ice, and a KGNC TV interview. He arrives by private plane from Oklahoma City for a Baptist convention prior to the visit.
