A long distance air derby unfolds with two planes forced to retire over Pennsylvania as racers press toward Mines Field Los Angeles. The event features top pilots and international contenders competing in a nonstop transcontinental race now reaching its dramatic midcourse phase.

Clif ford McMillin of Syracuse led off but his craft failed in Pennsylvania. Randolph Sage of Northville resumed after a brief return for repairs. Others followed toward the Pacific coast with pilots Mamer Burgin Iseman Haldeman Ruth Elder and Goebel in Vega Belanca Columbia craft. Col Thaw II also launched in a powered Lockheed Vega. Dr. S P Brooks president of Baylor University will keynote the Sunday night religious program at the Amarillo Tri State exposition in front of the grandstand September 23. The event is a city wide cooperative effort with a mass choir of hundreds rehearsing at Polk Street Methodist church and Khiva Temple Chanters featured.
In Happy, Sept 12, 61 Randall and Happy residents met with Randall county commissioners to urge a route for state highway No. 9 that passes through Happy rather than bypassing it. They questioned the engineer's survey and urged the commission to block routes that miss the town, insisting funds come from taxpayers, and that the highway must still pass through Happy, whose townsite spans Randall and Swisher counties.
Extradition to Colorado for Floyd Jarrett the Oklahoma outlaw was granted by Governor Henry F Johnston. Jarrett is wanted in connection with the Lamar bank robbery in Colorado and four subsequent murders.
On September 12 in Kansas City a string of 21 Herefords averaging 839 pounds sold for 18 dollars per hundredweight, the highest price since 1919. The cattle were marketed by Dan Casement of Manhattan Kansas.
Mexico City September reports the resignation of Attorney General Ramon Ortega announced by Interior Secretary Emilio Portes Gil. Ortega will be replaced by Ezequiel Padilla the note states citing personal business duties as the reason for stepping down.
Five seamen were killed and four injured when an explosion fractured the tank steamer Shreveport off Frying Pan shoals en route from Philadelphia to Gulf ports. Twenty nine survivors were rescued by the Spanish steamer Aldecoa and taken to a quarantine station. The ship was demolished by fire but not yet sunk.
Three former youths from near Breckenridge were jailed in Eastland on suspicion in the murder of Lucius and Leon Shook. Sheriff Hart said a 17 year old confessed orally to a part in the crime. The double slaying, likely robbery related, occurred Friday night and the bodies were found on an oil lease near the brothers’ hut.
In Dallas a 14 year old boy Frank Erwin Jr. was killed when a massive boulder crushed him while playing pirates with two companions under a cliff ledge. His father died of shock two hours after learning of the tragedy. the mother is under physician care. Gwynn Bailey and Ross Bedell accompanied the boy. Bailey aided by summoning help as the rock pinned Erwin.
An Oldsmobile coupe containing 40 gallons of whiskey was seized after a day and night vigil for the owner. Located near a local hotel around 1 pm Tuesday, the vehicle bore license 88-323 and was said to be from Tarrant County Texas. Federal officers will take the car and destroy the liquor when they arrive next week, per Police Chief H L Gaither.
Alexander Zoubhoff, brother-in-law of the former Kaiser, was arrested by Belgian police while trying to enter Belgium illegally from Luxembourg. He was expelled from the country after being taken off a street car.
President Coolidge and Herbert Hoover reviewed campaign progress in a White House conference but offered no clear statement on the retiring leader's role in the fight. A Maine election analysis and a meeting with the national committee and women’s party delegation followed, as Hoover studied equal rights amendments with caution.

The Republican state convention in Albuquerque unanimously nominated U S Senator Bronson M Cutting for the six year term by acclamation. Cutting had been appointed six months earlier by Governor Dillon to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator A A Jones.
United States Senator Sam Bratton of New Mexico will deliver the principal address at a Democratic campaign rally in Alto tonight. The event at the Auditorium starts at 8 o'clock with H L Adkins introducing the senator.
Governor Alfred E. Smith releases a statement on slander in his Syracuse state fair controversy. It centers on letters and telegrams alleging he was drunk and unable to speak without assistance. The record includes denials by State Senator George R. Fearon and Mrs. Florence Sandford.
An especial appeal to the women of Amarillo and Panhandle cities to hear United States Senator Sam Bratton of New Mexico tonight was issued by Judge Bob Underwood.
