Tony Dinello told Kansas City police he killed his daughters Helen 13 and Florence 11. At the family home he attempted suicide by slashing his throat with a razor after detectives allegedly re enacted the crime. Officials say injuries were not yet determined.
Washington reports the administration tariff measure, likely to become law by October, would raise about 400 million dollars annually. Congress aims for quick action, while debates center on wool sugar and dye duties and a broad executive tariff adjustment power. Separate from this, Dinello confessed to killing his two daughters, with bodies dumped in the Missouri River, as police pressed for full details.
In Excelsior Springs Missouri on September 12 the Democratic state central committee elected W L Igoe of St Louis as chairman after a deadlock with anti Reed forces. Igoe was backed by Senator James A Reed and defeated Carrollton lawyer W B Painter advancing the party toward its platform convention and business.
Washington September 12 The official bulletin at 7 80 oclock reported Mrs Harding’s condition has improved and the immediate crisis is past unless unforeseen complications arise. Attending physicians had expressed confidence earlier in the day and announced that no operation would be needed for the present.
NEWPORT NEWS Virginia September 1 The Army airship C2 did not depart as planned for its cross country flight to California because of delays in orders and scheduling leaving the airship grounded pending further instructions and weather considerations.
In Portland the House of Bishops voted 36 to 27 to delete the word obey from the Episcopal marriage ceremony and sent the proposal back to the commission. If the Deputies concur, the change waits three years for general convention approval. Also adopted was a resolution seeking an international narcotic traffic conference.
Four men were spotted attempting to dynamite the Atlantic Coast Line bridge over Six Mile Creek near Jacksonville Florida. After a pistol battle deputies captured two of the suspects and dispersed the others, ending the planned wrecking bid.
In Bartlesville on September 12 the Oklahoma American Legion convention adopted resolutions demanding Briggen C. Sawyer removal as chief coordinator of rehabilitation for disabled ex servicemen. The body also sought ouster of U P Kohen and U C Bile, in charge at the Dallas district veterans bureau office. Dudley Monk of Okmulgee was elected department commander.
Amarillo Gassers clinched the West Texas League pennant by winning the fifth straight game 6 to 4 at Clovis New Mexico. Liz Smith struck out 13 and yielded six hits as Johnny Meanor collected four hits in five at bats with a second inning double. Reynolds and Wetzel drove in runs for Amarillo as Clovis made three double plays.
Detroit Mich Sept 12 United States Senator Charles Townsend led the Michigan Republican Senate nomination race as returns from 820 of 2856 precincts showed Townsend 13580 Baker 9916 Kelley 6917 Emery 4056. Groesbeck led the governor race with 18001 to Fletcher 10447. Townsends campaign defended his vote to seat Newberry amid attacks from Kelley Emery and opponents. Griffith 226 Cooley 91.
DINNER Colorado Sept 12 Willam K Sweet of Denver led the Democratic governor nomination race as 26 precincts reported scattered across the state. Totals show Sweet 78 Sabin Ladunta 468 and B 1b.
Early Seattle precincts tally United States Senator Miles Poindexter of Spokane in second place, trailing Seattle rival George B. Lamping by about 50 votes. Six precincts report Poindexter 230 to Lamping 288.
Report from Columbia South Carolina shows Thomas G. McLeod leading Cole L. Blease by 16,487 votes with 155,451 counted across 46 counties. Nomination appears assured despite incomplete returns, according to The State.
Sept 12 Texas report from Austin states West Texas needs 12 000 laborers for cotton picking. Homer D Wade Stamford assistant manager of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce urges towns to move idle workers to the fields and asks school officials to delay opening terms to ease harvest shortages.
Federal officers alleged they found a copper still and a barrel of liquor in connection with a wet charge filed today against W. I. Dry in Oklahoma City on September 12. The report notes the presence of the apparatus and liquor prompting the charge.

Fort Worth dispatch reports Mrs J C Tatum of Stop Six Dallas Pike lured into a car by four women, taken several miles from home, and given 100 lashes with ball-ended straps by a group described as the Invisible Eye. She survived the assault and described the methods used.
At the Texas American Legion convention in Waco the second day ended with a heated debate over moving the state headquarters from Dallas to Austin. A bylaw dispute and procedural wrangling led to a special order for 2:15 p.m. Wednesday. A partial resolutions report backed Davis for national vice commander and urged defense acts, with a proposed three member Texas WWI hero history commission.
Percy F. Browne of Pasadena Calif a banker and sportsman sues Edna Cudahy Browne in Superior Court for divorce alleging desertion. Edna Cudahy Browne is the daughter of the late Jack Cudahy and came to Los Angeles a year and a half ago.
Atlantic City September 12 The executive council of the American Federation of Labor criticized Federal Judge Wilkersons extension of the shopcrafts restraining order. The council vowed to rid organized labor of radical elements and endorsed a plan to aid striking rail workers with financial and moral support through Samuel Gompers.
Washington reports final action by House Republicans on the soldiers bonus bill as perfected in conference. The measure then goes to the Senate to wait for the tariff bill conference report. The conference report was signed today and to be presented tomorrow. Senator Smoot and Representative Garner withheld signatures while Representative Collier was absent.
Tulsa, September 12. Tommy Tucker 18 and Archie Stowell 28 were killed when their plane, piloted by Stowell, fell 350 feet and crashed into a pasture near Tulsa. The two men were a well known amateur flyer and a professional aviator.
Wynkett Kiersted of Kansas City begins a preliminary survey for an adequate water system for Amarillo. He works with D L McDonald of Hereford drilling test wells near the artesian area. Mayor Marrs visits Hereford gathering data as reports of a nearby well pumping a million gallons daily emerge.
