E C Austin eight miles south of Flomot died at a Plainview hospital from burns suffered when gasoline used to clean a car horn ignited and set his clothing on fire. His brother Hurlburt aided, as family gathered at Floyd Ruddick’s home. Funeral planned at Flomot Baptist Church with burial in Flomot Cemetery. He leaves a widow, parents, four sisters, and six brothers.

A badly decomposed nude man about 60 was found in a wooded area 200 yards south of Greenwood Road, ten miles west of Shreveport. Coroner Dr. Willis P. Butler said death appeared natural with no signs of violence. a six inch lesion on the left leg likely animal mauling after death. He had been dead at least three days.
