A wind gust during an electrical storm lifted a large gospel tent on North Fillmore Street, dropping it on about 7 000 attendees. More than 50 injured, one seriously, as ambulances rushed to the scene and rescue workers sifted through torn canvas and shattered chairs for victims.
The report lists multiple injuries among attendees in northwest Texas including Billy Ann Carrigan 14 Leola Hopkins 42 J Payne 48 Tom Hataway unknown Lena Binks 61 Minnie Underwood matches NM and W J Williams 62 with various wounds. Several were treated and released while Tom Hataway remained in critical condition from chest injuries. Witnesses described darkness and a wind gust that caused the tent to collapse as responders aided victims.

Burk Drug Store in Perryton was robbed Saturday night with entry through the roof. About $225 to $250 in cash and narcotics including 225 hypodermic tablets and 500 morphine tablets were stolen, with two men believed implicated. Sheriff Ray Phagan noted the intruders entered via a ventilator chute and slid down to reach the pistol.
