Fire swept a hangar at an Army air field early Thursday, engulfing a Beech craft twin engine plane valued at about 100000. Firefighters prevented spread to adjacent buildings and kept the blaze from impacting English field air traffic.
Congressman Eugene Worley announced a 120 day extension for preparing dam evidence on the Canadian River. The new filing deadline is January 20, 1948, replacing September 20. Mayors Hagg and Rodgers led requests from Lubbock and Amarillo officials for flood control water supply recreation and irrigation benefits. Additional hearings may follow as new information arises.

In Fort Worth on September 9 a speed up production order for the B-36 bomber went into effect at Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft Corp. Ray O. Ryan said 6000 to 7000 Convair workers would adopt 10 hour shifts, six days a week, affecting production plus some clerical and non production staff.

At 7 45 p m Thursday the Chenney home burned in a four room frame structure. R B Baker and neighbor efforts saved Twelfth from total loss though Chenney suffered second degree burns to the face arms shoulders hands and feet and was rushed to Northwest Texas Hospital. Firefighters fought the blaze with five tanks of water but the nearest hose connection lay 12 blocks away. Wilbur Allen and Jessie Jones helped prevent a total loss as the fire raged.
Herman Talmadge won Georgia's governorship after a Democratic primary victory on a white supremacy platform. He led with about 336,022 votes to 291,728 for rival M. E. Thompson, signaling a swift Assembly session and an early inauguration in November.
