Giant Raid Targets 83 Heroin Pushers in San Antonio
In a major operation led by 83 suspects jailed for selling heroin, Officer Albert Chevera spent 68 days undercover as an addict codenamed Junior. He learned pushers were widespread and addicts struggle to quit amid limited treatment options. Local and federal authorities conducted the largest raid in city history from Thursday to Friday, with additional narcotics arrests during the sweep. Chevera notes addicts turn to crime to support their habit.

Famed NM School To Close Indian Police Academy Site
Roswell Employment Training Center will phase out due to BIA budget cuts with complete closure by June 30 1973. The Indian Police Academy, a unique national program, will shut down after this class graduates September 22. The center operated by Thiokol under BIA contract has educated 2000 plus students in 25 fields since 1968 and faces no replacement program yet.

Cecil L. Seeberger 35, his wife Jane 33, and son Gregory 13 died when their westbound car left the Turner Turnpike near Oklahoma City, bridged railing, plunged to U S 177 and exploded. Three other children Dianna 15 Karen 10 Gary 8 survived in satisfactory condition. Seeberger lived in Amarillo after moving from Crossville Tennessee.

Blowout Could Signal New Gas Field Near Hagerman
In Hagerman New Mexico a well 35 miles east blew out on August 29 releasing about 300 million cubic feet of gas before capping on Thursday. Moran Oil’s Gus Williamson says the well completed as a gas well may mark a new zone or field after starting as an oil well at 10,710 feet. Red Adair crew from Houston aided in capping the well on a federal lease owned by Cockrell Corp of Houston.

Gambling raid targets Elks Lodge in Clovis New Mexico
Clovis police conducted a surprise raid at Elks Lodge No. 1244 resulting in the seizure of five slot machines two upright electronic devices a dice table a lottery type ticket bowl and a rotating roulette clock. Nine Clovis residents and one Farwell Texas resident were charged with gambling with one Kaiser charged for allowing gambling on the premises. All suspects released on own recognizance to appear in city court Tuesday.
