In a confession reported by police, a man stated he killed another man who endangered his home by interfering in his relationship. Authorities investigate as the suspect cites protecting his family and lasting impact on the community.
Amarillo public schools begin the 1929-1930 term with the largest enrollment in city history. About 1,135 seniors, juniors, sophomores and high freshmen are classified for senior high work, with Central Junior High already crowded, anticipating around 700 enrollments by nightfall. Superintendent W A McIntosh warns the senior high and Central Junior High will be over crowded, forcing transfers to subdistricts to maintain adequate facilities and programs.
A Tass Agency dispatch from Vladivostok reports Chinese troops unexpectedly opened artillery and rifle fire on Soviet border troops in the Gradekovo-Poltaskaya district of the Nikolsk district. Details were not provided.

A Dallas suspect, a black man, was taken in for questioning over the illegal disinterment of Mrs. Joseph Spergel 87 whose grave at Oakland cemetery was violated after her burial on August 23. The body and casket were found hidden beneath fresh dirt in a paupers’ field near the cemetery.
Col. Charles A. Lindbergh and his wife landed at 5 55 p m at Waynoka and will stay the night. He is a technical advisor to the Transcontinental Air Transport whose airport reported the stop.
Merchants and agricultural pavilions at the Tri-State fair grounds have several booths open for the September 23 to 29 event. Wilbur C. Hawk, president of the fair association, urged early booth entry and noted many concessions remain. A fishing party on the Colorado river near Austin ended in tragedy as a motorboat capsized. F J Bryant 24, his wife Gladys 22, and their baby Fred 3, all of Austin, drowned. James Bryant 3 also died. Mr and Mrs Thomas Bryant survived, rescued by Jank Gullette and an unnamed youth.
Fog blankets the Panhandle with a 100 foot ceiling as Western Air Express planes face delays. An east bound plane forced down at Tucumcari due to broken ailerons remains weather bound after pilots struggle through dense fog. A relief flight from Albuquerque was sent but barred from reentry due to dangerous conditions. Grounded flights stretch to Waynoka and Kansas City routes. some crews and passengers relocate by train or await further orders.
Amarillo hosts a public fall fashion and automobile show opening at 7 30 p m tonight on Polk street between Third and Ninth avenues. Merchants and auto dealers promise attractive displays of clothing and the latest car models with Band by Dave Derden’s group performing on Tony Chisum’s sales lot. The News Globe sponsors the event and a list of displaying firms is given for Polk street showcase.

Captain Roscoe Turner of Memphis Tennessee was forced to land his Nevada Airlines Lockheed aircraft at Alanreed Texas due to rain and fog while en route to Los Angeles. He landed without damage and is piloting the game plane that set a coast to coast passenger record and completed the Los Angeles to Cleveland leg in the air races.
The prosecution rested its case in the Gastonia murder trial of 16 labor leaders and strikers after court adjourned for a conference. Testimony from officers who accompanied Police Chief C. F. Aderholt to the Loray mill strikers' union headquarters on June 7 highlighted that the chief and officers were leaving the grounds when the fatal shots were fired.
Shawnee Oklahoma reports a theater employee Ahrnd Ruhberg acted as a robber in a staged holdup after a rival show drew a crowd with a fire alarm. Policeman W N Jones fired one shot, striking Ruhberg in the side. Ruhberg remains in hospital with a bullet near his spine and slight hope for recovery.
GRANT New Mexico Sept 8 The final search for the Trans continental Air Transport plane City of San Francisco ended as forest rangers ambulance crew and reporters lifted a burnt fuselage from the wreckage on Mount Taylor seven miles from its summit. The plane apparently struck a pine tree 67 feet up and shed its wings and tail while plunging through heavy spruce and pines. Debris covered a 300 foot area and the crash ignited gasoline.
Unofficial forecast by H. T. Collman of the local weather bureau predicts clearing weather today or tomorrow for the Texas Panhandle. A recent rain spell began Friday, with 0.95 inch total since Friday and 0.15 inch from Saturday 7 am to Sunday 7 am. Temperatures reached 65 and 56, with rain reported across the South Plains and Amarillo division.
Mrs Rebecca Bradley Rogers, former University of Texas student, faces robbery with firearms charges for the December 1 1926 Farmers National Bank hold up at Buda Texas. Otis Rogers her husband and chief counsel says over 40 witnesses including mental experts will testify to insanity claims while District Attorney Fred Blundell seeks to refute them. A special 120 person venue was summoned and trial could conclude within ten days if jury selection proceeds promptly.
