Secretary Hull urged leaders at a World Power Conference to prevent new hostilities lest civilization be destroyed. He warned future wars would involve entire populations and modern weapons, urging scientists to use brains to help humanity, not war.
Local detectives and insurers probed the deaths of several north side drifters with large life policies. A body was exhumed and two other deaths were under inquiry. Names ages and address tattooed on the left arm appeared on all three, and investigators questioned a man who collected on the policies and shared the tattooed address.
Scattered showers fell across the North Plains with a good rain at Quitaque as the Panhandle began a cloudy week. St Francis 14 miles northeast of Amarillo and White Deer and Skellytown in Carson County reported local afternoon showers.

L Hunter Skaggs, assistant postmaster at Whittenberg, charged with embezzling more than $2 800, arrested by Electra police yesterday afternoon. Postal inspector E N Juvenal departed to transfer Skaggs to Potter County jail.
Uvalde September 7 Special Judge Grady Lowrey declared County Judge M. B. Walcott the Democratic nominee after a contested runoff. Walcott gained 31 votes by deducting 88 from Davis and 55 from Walcott, overturning a two vote Davis edge. Davis plans an appeal.
Lord Moynihan prominent British medical authority dies at 70 in Leeds six days after wife Isabella Moynihan, whom he married in 1805. He collapsed from grief after her funeral and had faced Catholic opposition last year for urging legalization of mercy killing for incurable patients.
Sept 7 1934 East Texas. A fire in Cushing damages about a quarter of the town's business area. Mrs Ida Briley suffers a back injury after leaping from the Wallace Hotel second story. her son Josh jumps to safety uninjured. Hotel owner Mrs Margaret Wallace is rescued from a window. Investigators peg losses at about $20,000 with only the hotel insured.
French cabinet plans to spend about 14 billion francs (roughly 912 million dollars) on the army over four years amid rising security concerns. A 1937 defense budget totals about 4.2 billion francs with autumn parliamentary submission, plus 100 million francs for naval base work. Communist protests and Spain aiding pressure add to tensions.
Otto Eckert 56, his wife 55, and Kathryn Eckert 19 were injured when their car swerved off a road near Mustang Oklahoma and plunged 20 feet into a creek bed. Otto suffered a head injury and wrist fracture, the wife had multiple fractures including a leg and shoulder, Kathryn was facially cut and lost teeth. All were taken to a hospital.

Jack Wright, jailed in Guthrie Texas, charged with robbery with firearms and attempted murder in a King County liquor store hold up on September 1. Store proprietor J A George, 58, shot three times and hospitalized in Paducah with a guarded prognosis. Two other suspects face similar charges. arrests pending.
