Tokyo Raiders Speak On Captivity and Torture
Three Doolittle Raiders, Capt. Robert Hite Chase Neilsen and Sgt. Jacob Deshazer, told how Japanese guards beat them with bamboo poles slapped them and kept them in solitary confinement for most of forty months after the Tokyo raid. They reported the fate of the eight raiders with Gen. Doolittle and noted three others were executed or died in prison with two others surviving the crash and rescue. One officer died in a Nanking prison in December 1943 and the remaining details about the three unaccounted men were not known.
