Norman Oklahoma September 5. State seeks life for Neal Myers in Marian Mills death. Physician testifies abortion attempt linked to the beauty queen’s passing. Hazel Brown, the cook at Myers and Mills’ Fraternity House, sobs as she describes the events at the duplex.
Four people from Fort Worth died instantly when a train struck an automobile one mile north of Saginaw. J E Mayes and J C Mayes, brothers, aged 62 and 52, perished with the latter’s daughters Greta Fay 24 and Frances 13. Mrs J C Mayes survived with severe injuries. Another passenger, Mrs Inez Mull 29, suffered a fractured hip and broken leg. The auto was driven toward a prairie fire, reportedly not seeing Train No 2 due in Fort Worth from Colorado Springs at 8 10 P M.
The coroner's jury in Los Angeles ruled the death of Russ Columbo accidental. The 12 year old dueling pistol fatally wounded him while he and Hollywood photographer Lansing Brown sat chatting Sunday. The jury exonerated Brown of all guilt.
The sale of 14 head of prime finished Hereford yearling steers in Kansas City realized $10.25 per hundredweight, the highest price since December 1931, setting a new peak for the market. The event, dated September 5, reflects strong demand for prime cattle.

Upton Sinclair, former socialist and new California gubernatorial candidate, says federal relief funds may back his EPIC plan. After meeting with President Roosevelt and relief administrator Harry Hopkins, he cites the relief law authorizing grants to aid cooperative and self help in barter of goods and services. He urges California to try the plan for four years and promises no love for dictators.
Senate munitions investigators reveal that American officials including former ambassador Frederick Morgan aided the Electric Boat Company of New York in promoting Latin American submarine sales. A letter to company rep Frederick Chapin shows Morgan saying he consulted Luis Aubry over a three month period in 1922.
Chicago Sept 5 Wiley Post attempted stratosphere tests in the Winnie Mae reaching above 30,000 feet then descended to Curtiss Reynolds Airport for instrument checks. He landed at 2 PM CST and removed his helmet saying he had flown as far south as South Bend Indiana but refused to say the altitude.
Dieut. Robert Allen Brunt a 24 year old pilot from Kelly Field San Antonio died after his training aircraft crashed near Mertzon 25 miles southwest of San Angelo Motor trouble was suspected as residents saw the plane fail over the town Brunt a West Point graduate attended Marion College Indiana is survived by his widow Edith Rigsby Brunt and his father Charles R Brunt both of Marion Indiana
R A Crank a farmer was killed when a Fort Worth and Denver passenger train struck the tractor he rode ten miles east of Plainview. The accident occurred today as the tractor was on the track causing the death of the Hale County resident.
Fair and cooler Thursday for Amarillo and west Texas south of the 190th meridian. Partly cloudy conditions with cooler readings to the north. New Mexico expected to see unsettled weather and little temperature change. Hourly temperatures referenced for Amarillo include a 2 pm reading around 65 to 66 degrees in a fragmentary meteorological snippet.

In Austin on September 5 the Texas Democratic Convention in Galveston will consider repeal of state prohibition and the pari mutuel wagering law for horse racing. Attorney General James V. Allred, the party's gubernatorial nominee, supports submitting prohibition repeal to a vote and ending horse race wagering. He will brief the convention and seek adoption of a platform aligned with his campaign pledges.
Chicago report describes 22 year old John Long winning freedom after four months in Joliet prison when a judge apologized for Illinois and declared him a free man. Brethauer, who closely resembled Long, confessed to the holdup.
Rioting and deaths marked the Georgia and Carolinas textile strike. Two killed, several wounded, as Franely J. Gorman blamed management and officials for bloodshed. A three man board chosen by President Roosevelt will investigate while the strike continues.
Philadelphia reports Dr. John A. Kilmer disclosed that twenty two children have been vaccinated with the newly developed infantile paralysis vaccine. The group includes Kilmer's two sons and two children of his secretary, marking early results of the vaccine’s use.
