Four thousand union laborers paraded through downtown Amarillo for Labor Day then attended the Sells Floto circus. The city hosted a grand ball at the Nat and a huge afternoon crowd watched the festivities as banners praised labor power.
Labor day passes with minimal incidents at the police station and sheriff's office as desk officers report a quiet 12 hours and only a single car theft noted but quickly recovered. The day features a parade morning crowd and a busy Labor day midnight matinee at the Fair theatre drawing long lines.
The parade featured Sioux Indian color and decorated floats with carpenters prominent, led by the Painters' and Paper Hangers' union. Officials in uniform from fire and police departments rode or stood on mounted equipment, with Mayor Lee Bivins in attendance. Labor Day celebrations mixed work with leisure, two days off for many, while some traveled or enjoyed family outings.
More than 1,500 people attended the Dumas and Moore county barbecue honoring A. O. Duggan head of the townsite company and gas producer. Six beeves were cooked and eaten on the courthouse lawn as gas from the nearby well drowned out conversations. A baseball game between Dumas and Stratford and a rodeo by Mills Brothers and Archer Steward followed amid gas line work and property sales inquiries. In Athens a bank robbery suspect, J. B. Willis, 34, was held as a fugitive related to a New Orleans robbery.
Five policemen were shot, two probably fatally, when a crazed Negro barricaded in his Evansville home resisted arrest after threatening his wife. Chief Harry Anderson and Chief Edward Sutheimer were among the wounded, with Sutheimer and Patrolman Langford likely fatally hurt. Reserves were called as officers prepared for another assault on the barricaded house.
Paris report states Jean Callizo, holder of the world altitude record, will be heard by a French Aero club commission on charges of faking the August 29 flight. He allegedly inserted invisible ink on the barograph to show a 13,000 meter height and did not deny the claim.
Cain Anderson on trial under anti mask law for flogging two farming couples near Marshall. He testifies he was at home in bed when the assaults occurred, contradicting witness Hughes who alleged payment to settle families. Prosecution to rebut with grand jury members and other witnesses.
Paris moves to honor the American Legion as its convention opens on September 19, despite a socialist party manifesto urging French workers to boycott the government celebration. About 50,000 cheered General Gouraud at the Arc de Triomphe after the Unknown Soldier ceremony. Local mutliated soldiers also sent greetings to the Legion and urged no more wars.

A powerful bomb exploded between the supreme court building and the hall of records in central Brooklyn wounding no one thanks to rapid police response. Windows shattered about 500 dollars worth and clockwork debris were found as investigators described the device as TNT likely.
Spearman voters authorized 56 680 for a sewer system and 10 000 for a new city hall, plus a 20 000 refunding bond. turnout was 213 with 154 54 on sewer, 173 25 on refunding, and 158 46 on city hall. Bonds will be offered for sale and bids sought by the city council promptly.
Mia Alma Petty Gatlin in her early twenties was arrested in Reidsville North Carolina accused of killing her father R. Smith Petty. The body was found in a shallow basement grave at the Petty home last Saturday after an alleged confession to evangelist Rev. Thomas F. Pardue.
The Norwegian steamer Christian Krohg reported sighting Paul Redfern and his plane Port of Brunswick on August 26 about 165 miles from the Venezuelan mainland. Redfern circled the ship and dropped three notes asking directions, with a second note asking to point toward land and wave for every 109 miles. A fireman retrieved one note from the sea.
West Amarillo civic leaders will press for a new school building wider West Fifth Street and sewer extensions through San Jacinto Country Club and Roberts Place alleyways to lay sewer lines. The West Fifth widening is nearly finished to Georgia Avenue and will be continued unless halted by protest from property owners and city plans.
Wayne Wheeler general counsel for the Anti Saloon League died at Battle Creek sanitarium after a kidney ailment and brief improvement. He had just returned from Cleveland where his wife and father in law were buried and funeral plans were not finalized.
A severe storm hit Dallas Sunday night causing about 50 000 dollars in property damage and injuring eight people in traffic accidents due to slick streets and heavy rain. The hardest hit area was University Park near Southern Methodist University where a store building roof was damaged and timbers fell on nearby bystanders while two university dormitories escaped damage.
Gere ald Ducker, three, was found safe after spending part of the night wedged in a badly enlarged badger hole on his parents ranch near New Reymer Fort Morgan Colo. He wandered from the house while playing and fell into the hole during heavy rains. after hours of searching his parents located him unharmed.
