Roosevelt told the State Progressive Convention of Iowa that reactionaries in both parties are turning to the Democratic candidate. He demanded tariff revision and denounced the Payne Aldrich law as shams and humbugs. Roosevelt spoke in Des Moines before heading to St Paul.
Wytheville Virginia reports Victor Allen the last of the arrested suspects to face trial for the Hillsville Courthouse murders. Floyd and Claude Allen receive death sentences. Friar Allen and Sidna Edwards jailed terms. Sidna Allen and Wesley Edwards remain at large.
In Columbus Ohio on September 4 the National Association of Postmasters of the second and third class met for its annual convention. Officers present include President Harry E Blair of Waukesha Wisconsin Vice President R W Jones of Sidney Ohio and Secretary Treasurer H A Hopkins of St Clair Michigan. Several issues concerning postmasters duties and postal service improvements were set to be discussed after opening.
Reagan of San Francisco defeated Johnson of Butte in 14 rounds in Salt Lake City. The bout occurred on September 4 with Reagan scoring a clear decision over Johnson.
The Ocean Park concession and business district was devastated by a major fire. All missing are accounted for. 225 buildings destroyed. Loss estimated at 1.2 million on buildings and 1 million on contents. A R Fraser founder suffered about 1 million dollar loss with only 20 thousand insurance.
Heavy rains drenched Tulia and surrounding Swisher County over the past week. The Tulia rainfall last month totaled four inches with nearly an inch already this month, and farmers anticipate bumper cotton crops as a result.

Arthur Standin of Oberlin Ohio set a world record by riding twenty six miles in twenty minutes and three seconds ahead of the previous twenty two minute standard announced from St Louis by Associated Press.
Governor Johnson said the Progressive spirit seen at the Chicago convention has spread nationwide. He predicts the East will mirror the West in early campaign stages and foresees a later rout of opponents. He spoke in Chicago while en route to Columbus, Ohio.

Calgary Alta September 4 public buildings and many homes show heavy decoration for the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Connaught. The vice regal party will be greeted by provincial and municipal officials and a citizens committee. The Governor General will attend the Stampede carnival review mounted police and receive visiting Indian chiefs. The jou will be resumed early Saturday morning.
Hundreds of Confederate Veterans from across Oklahoma attend a three day session in Adta beginning today as the Oklahoma division of the United Confederate Veterans holds its annual convention. The city is decorated for the reunion and a grand parade along with social events are planned for tomorrow.
