The Youth Employment Agency in the Barfield Building placed 281 high school boys and girls in full or part time jobs during summer. Founded by the Sertoma Club, a new anonymous financier kept it alive, and the non profit group will stay open during the school year.
General Douglas MacArthur stated he personally saved Emperor Hirohito from trial and execution as a World War II criminal. He noted Hirohito’s name appeared on some nations’ lists, and said the emperor was willing to take full responsibility for Japan’s wartime actions. The remark came on the 10th anniversary of Japan’s surrender aboard the Missouri, where MacArthur and Mamoru Shigemitsu met as friends.
In New York yesterday Shigemitsu arrived for a four day visit and called on General MacArthur in the general's Waldorf Towers suite. They spoke privately for about an hour after posing for photographers. The private talk broadened into a monologue as MacArthur opened with a detailed briefing.
British police charged a Chinese coolie in Hong Kong with murder conspiracy in connection with the Kashmir Princess crash that killed 16 aboard while en route to the Asian African Conference. The Army says a New York Daily News report that Maj. Gen. Arthur G. Trudeau was fired by President Eisenhower from his post as assistant chief of staff for intelligence (G-2) is incorrect. Trudeau is slated for an important Far East assignment after nearly two years in the role.

U N Olver 67 year old former Amarillo Country Club president and lumberman is in critical condition at Northwest Texas Hospital after being stricken at his home. He retired from Olver Wiggins Lumber Co. and led the country club for two decades building its Southwest reputation.
