Labor leaders warn that a strike ridden year has clouded tomorrow’s workingmen’s holiday. Textile workers walk out overnight as unions mobilize amid NRA effects and fears of left wing agitation within the AFL. Perkins voices optimism on progress toward recovery since last year.
A section of the Bowers plant of the Texas Carbon Company south of Pampa caught fire. Firemen battled the blaze for hours. about 1,000,000 pounds of carbon black were at risk and damage was expected to be heavy. The origin is unknown.
Amarilloans and visitors from the Panhandle will dance at the Nat tonight to Paul Spor and his orchestra hailed as a leading band. The Labor Day program runs from eight o clock to 12 36 Tuesday morning with a floor show and a Tri-State Fair Association benefit.
Floods lingered in Clarendon after six inches of rain while a north wind shredded trees and wind mills. Debris blocked streets as residents sought shelter in cellars and autoists dodged a duststorm. A hailstorm was reported at Alanreed thirty miles north.
Charley Payton, former Borger police officer, died at North Plains Hospital after being shot in the back near his home Saturday night. The fatal wound was described as penetrating just below the left shoulder into the heart region.
An Amarillo woman, Mrs Chester L Edwards 28, was found dead in a car in Lubbock while visiting an aunt. Funeral services are at N S Griggs and Sons chapel at 4 this afternoon with Dr G L Yates officiating. Interment in Llano Cemetery. Survivors include her son James A Edwards 11, her parents Mr and Mrs Jim Bradley of Amarillo, three brothers J T Autrey W P Bradley, and sister Miss Margaret Bradley. A coroner's verdict had not been released.
Fifteen army airplanes from Barksdale Field Shreveport Louisiana arrived in Oklahoma City after an overnight stop at Muskogee and participated in an American Legion air show.
A early season norther swept across Northwest Texas Sunday night driving temperatures down from 90 to 56 degrees. Wind peaked at 60 mph near Amarillo's English Field and 40 mph in Amarillo downtown, with dust clouds obscuring towers for a time. Similar cooling reported across the Panhandle.
Amarillo hosts a large aviation day at English Field as the TWA Douglas airliner christened City of Amarillo prepares to launch nationwide service. Helium replaces champagne in the ceremony, a first, and about 4,000 attendees witness landing and takeoffs. Approximately 100 Amarillonians tour the city aboard eight flights.

Federal agents will seize lands where illegal liquor is manufactured under a new tool from federal tax and liquor law enforcement. Hollywood police reported that Russ Columbo a 26 year old actor and dance orchestra reader died after an accidental pistol discharge at Lansing Brown's home. Brown was showing a French dueling pistol when a lighted match ignited the cap causing the shot. The bullet hit a dresser and ricocheted into Columbo's head.
R B Creager Republican national committeeman from Texas dismissed Dallas Republicans action to unseat him and block his nominees. He said the move was trivial and unimportant and would be ignored.
A Dallas county health officer reports a negro farmer was killed by a mule that bit him while he fed his stock, leaving him with a tooth-marked back and a stunned expression. The incident is recounted with local color as a grim tale from the night.
Vice President John Nance Garner postponed a dove hunt to accompany his 12 year old granddaughter Genevieve to see Will Rogers in Handy Andy. The small party canceled the hunt for the movie outing, promising to resume hunting the next day with Rogers as a frequent visitor to the Garner home.

Mrs Evelyn Conlay Crocker of Los Angeles dangled from a 12th floor hotel window for minutes in Seattle before hotel staff and a passing taxi driver pulled her to safety. A slipper fell to the street, alerting authorities as she cried over custody of her three and a half year old daughter Joy Lee, saying relatives kept the child after moving to Seattle. She admitted intent to die but resisted.
