Coste and Bellonte Set Dawn Transatlantic Flight Start

Captain Dieudonne Coste and Maurice Bellonte announced a dawn takeoff from Le Bourget to New York aboard the Question Mark. They landed at 5:50 p.m. after flying from Villacoublay, with weather reportedly favorable and the flight planned along a great circle route over southwestern England and Ireland.

Kiwanis Convention Draws Texas Oklahoma Leaders

The writings of A. D. Payne reveal funeral wishes seeking harmony after his death. He asks for specific hymns, a simple tomb labeled Mother and Daddy, and for Exa to lay with him if possible, with notes on burial location and a wish for family accord despite police involvement and differing views.

Arrest Man in Kidnap Death Of 8-Year-Old Girl

George Caine of South Bend, an 82 year old man, was arrested in Indianapolis on charges connected to the kidnaping and slaying of 8 year old Marveline Appel from South Bend last week. He attacked his 14 year old step daughter in Indianapolis, sending her to hospital in serious condition. Caine, a former telephone lineman, denied involvement. He is held on a first degree criminal assault charge with a $5,000 bond. Detectives Szamecki and Berner of South Bend police aided in the case.

Middle West Wins Honors in Air Races

Aboard at Curtiss Reynolds Airport Chicago on All Nations Day ben o Howard of St Louis won his fifth straight men s free for all and Verne Roberts of Moline captured the cabin race for planes under 800 cubic inches. Howard averaged 154.83 mph on the 25 mile course while Roberts logged 145.58 mph. Other top finishers included William Ong of Wichita second and E V Newson of Little Rock third in the free for all and J H Livingston of Aurora Illinois second in the cabin ship race with 145.40 mph. Arthur Caperton of Chicago won the amphibian rescue race with R B Cast of Cary Illinois second. About 40 000 spectators watched the event as the paper notes continued on page 7 column 7.

Horse Races Today at Tri-State Fairgrounds

Lovers of horse racing urged to attend at 2 30 p m Monday at the Tri-State fairgrounds where over 30 horses are in the stables ready for races. Admission for bleachers 75 cents grandstand 1 and box seats 25 cents extra. President Wilbur C Hawk invites Amarillo patrons to see racing again and get value for their money.

Legionnaires Off to Austin State Meeting

Amarillo's American Legion delegation travels to the Texas state convention in Austin, arriving for the opening ceremonies. Hanson Post No 54 will lead the parade as the leading post in the leading district, with 28 delegates and 28 alternates for the Legion and seven delegates and seven alternates for the auxiliary. Defeating Wichita Falls Post by one member, Amarillo posts stand strong with 651 members to Wichita Falls 650. Delegates named include C. C. Gibson, Floyd L. Sloan, Lewis P. Fields, and others.

Texas Special Crashes Into Spread Track Near Osage Hills

Eleven persons were killed and 30 injured when the Texas Special derailed at Osage Hills after a spread rail split a switch. The engine tore from the rails, killing the engineer and fireman. Doctors and nurses were dispatched, with casualties taken to Frisco Hospital and others.

Cuban widow of Cuban air corps officer accused of plotting to reveal secrets

Martha Lane Morlote of Long Meadow Massachusetts, widow of Lieut Rogelio Morlote, was detained for 72 hours in Marianao Cuba on high treason charges related to alleged negotiations with Colombian and US agents to sell the Cuban army air corps code key. Detained with her is Luis Marti, a former orderly. Morlote was killed in an airplane accident at Alc cranes on July 1.

Queen Anne Marie of Rumania to visit Gulf cities

New Orleans and southwest Gulf ports host Prince George Ighika and Princess Anne Marie of Romania on a pleasure cruise. They arrived aboard La Salle, plan to visit Galveston Tampico and Houston, then return to France via Havana and the Canary Islands while living aboard the ship.

Labor Day Races at Fair Park Thrills Expected

Labor Day at the Tri State fair grounds features five races with $500 in prizes under the Fair Association. Wilbur Hawk, president, says a special Labor Day handicap will draw strong interest. Saturday’s card pleased. Monday’s races should exceed it. Admission 75 cents bleachers, $1 grandstand. first race for two-year-olds, 88 miles, $75 purse. Deadly Explosive Strapped Between Legs Since Aug 5

The A. D. Payne case ends with Payne killing himself in jail using a small bottle of powder and dynamite fuse strapped between his legs. He had prepared the deadly charge about two days before arrest on August 5 and kept it hidden with adhesive tape. His cell mate R L Conder Jr provided the crucial account, corroborated by jailers, detailing Payn e plan and the moment the blast occurred.

Payne Funeral Rites Today Private Service for A. D. Payne

A private funeral for A. D. Payne will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home with burial in Tulia cemetery around 4:30 p.m. Dr. J. A. Bays of the First Methodist Church will officiate. The body will be in state until 1 p.m. Payne wished Dr. J. A. Hill, president of West Texas State Teachers College, Can yon, to give a short address at the funeral. The burial by Payne’s wife in Llano cemetery was denied. (Continued on Page 7, Col. 3)

Arctic Funeral Ship Nearing Home in Norway

The Bratvaag, carrying bodies from the Andree Arctic expedition of 33 years past, reached Hasvick on the Finmarken coast at 2 pm local time. News crews from many nations race toward Tromsø to cover the sensational recovery and Dr Horn's discovery of the bodies, hoping to be first with the story.
