In Manville on August 31, a mob of over 1800 striking workers and sympathizers fought state police and deputies for bridge access to the mills. Five people were shot by police, one seriously. A. Thibeaux, 64, Liberty County cattleman, was shot to death in a cotton patch near Nome at about 5 yesterday after a dispute over cattle. Frank Peeler, an employee of the Dew Brothers' ranch, has admitted the killing claiming self defense. the fatal shot came after Thibeaux was shot through the eye with a rifle. The sheriff's department was notified last night for ambulance and coroner services.
