The City Public Schools will open Monday at 8 30 for the nine months term of 1912 13. Pupils enroll, receive books, and study assignments before a brief Labor Day observance. New students and those needing make up work will be guided after dismissal. Books will be marked, grounds prepared, and the system aims for top efficiency.
Reports that a political party solicited funds from National Banks for the current campaign stirred Treasury officials. Acting comptroller Thomas H. Kane warned any bank making such contributions faces fines and liable officers and directors face fines and imprisonment for violations of the law.

Brattleboro Vermont Aug 31 Col Roosevelt closes his campaign in Vermont expressing satisfaction with the outlook and its impact on the November election. Crowds greeted him in several towns as he delivered brief addresses before heading to Oyster Bay for a night's rest and a western tour departure Monday.
President Taft will hold his first major political conference since the notification ceremony next Thursday. The Mayflower will be en route from New York to New London, Conn., with Chairman Hilles of the Republican National Committee and George Sheldon as guests.
Canon City Colorado August 31 Louis Wechter was executed at the penitentiary for the murder of Clifford Burrows in a cafe two years ago. The execution was carried out with secrecy and occurred at noon with the prisoner crying flurry up as guards prepared the trap.
Three state witnesses in the Rosen thal murder case have disappeared. Detectives were sent to Philadelphia to locate the missing witness who could testify about graft allegations involving Police Lieutenant Charles Becker, indicted for Herman Rosenthal's murder.
New Orleans report shows total U S cotton production for the commercial year ending today at 16,138,426 bales, about four million more than last year. Col. H G Hester of the New Orleans Cotton Exchange says nearly three million bales were consumed by Southern mills last year.
Democratic U S senator nominee Morris Sheppard departed today for Battle Creek Michigan to rest from the campaign. He will stay several weeks and then resume a speaking tour in the north and east in support of the Democratic national ticket.

John G. Mencke a 52 year old farmer six miles west of Amarillo died after being knocked down by an enraged bull on his farm Friday night. WN Sr Griges assisted at the home. funeral services by Rev. Warner will be at 2:30 pm at the Mencke home with interment in Lane cemetery at 4. He was a native of Oldenburg Germany and left a wife and eight children.
