GM First to Block Union UAW Force May Be Without Pact

UAW members seem headed to return to work Monday without a new contract at GM Ford and Chrysler. GM plants will operate under expired terms after Memorial Day with no 8 cent hourly increase. Traffic fatalities on the Memorial Day weekend opened with high expecta tions of near record deaths but fell short of the worst projections. Fatal crash mars Indianapolis 500 leading to Pat O Connor death

Senior Trip Drowning Claims Lelia Lake Salutatorian

Archie Wayne Aten 18, class salutatorian of Lelia Lake High School, drowned at Lake Pontchartrain during a senior trip. He swam with three companions before lifeguards arrived.
