A line of thunderstorms moved from Clovis toward Amarillo bringing strong winds and hail. Farms south and east of the city suffered damage including a 25 by 100 foot cowshed destroyed, a chicken house overturned, and a large feed shed collapsed. Hailstones as large as hen eggs blanketed the ground.

Seven Air Force men dead in C-47 crash near Alamogordo
A flam ing crash of a no-engined C-47 20 miles northeast of Alamogordo NM killed seven Air Force men. Four crew and three passengers were aboard on Memorial Day. The plane departed Holloman AFB 15 minutes earlier for its home base. Names withheld pending next of kin.
