Roy Cohn: Rising figure in Army McCarthy hearings

Washington May 30 Roy Marcus Cohn at 27 has become a national figure as chief counsel to the Senate subcommittee on investigations. A Democrat in McCarthy's circle he whispered in the ear during long hearings, drawing wide attention from senators officials and the press. He is born February 20, 1927, son of Albert Cohn, a Bronx politician and judge. He is a nightlife figure known for grooming habits and dating three pretty companions.

About 45 men had visited the rifle range nearby and returned shortly before a blast at the newly completed armory building. They had eaten dinner at the armory after their range outing. The incident involved the fresh armory structure and the sequence of events surrounding the explosion.

Memorial Day Services for Amarillo War Dead

Amarillo High holds 550 grads in baccalaureate sermon

McKinley Climber Saved by Promise Kept to Dead Man

George Argus, a Brooklyn soldier, was found alive at 11 000 feet on Mt McKinley after a 24 hour rescue. Dr John McCall and Frank Milan led the nine man team to reach Argus who had a broken hip in a tiny tent. The rescue fulfilled promises McCall made to himself and to George Thayer of three weeks earlier.

Derailment Halts Santa Fe Freight Near Hereford

An eastbound Santa Fe freight derailed 51 miles west of Hereford, with 34 refrigerated cars left side by side across the track. Thompson Named Abilene Superintendent in Northwest Texas

Hubert Thomson, longtime Amarillo San Jacinto Methodist Church leader, is appointed to head the Abilene district as Northwest Texas Methodist superintendents are announced in Battle, Wish. Teenage Liberal couple found dead in trailer home

Eldon Guttridge and his wife, part of Liberal prominent families, were found dead from gunshot wounds at their Guttridge ranch trailer. Seward County coroner Dr. Robert F. Byrne called the deaths murder or self-inflicted, with a coroner's jury to be convened soon after autopsy and X-ray exams.

Writers Round-Up Opens at West Texas College Amarillo
