Industrial Goods for Soviet Made for ERP Offer
Twenty million dollars worth of industrial goods made for Russia and stranded after Congress halted Lend-Lease to Moscow have been offered to the European Recovery Program. The War Assets Administration handed the list to the Economic Cooperation Administration for purchase by any Marshall Plan country approved by ECA. The items include coal mining machinery mine locomotives electrical equipment and a package power plant. Officials said a memorandum of understanding is being drafted to steer surplus war goods into the $5.3 billion recovery program. Glenn Craig of ECA reported arrival of the list. WAA described materials as new crated and boxed for export. The goods were the end of the 280 million dollar postwar lend lease pipeline to Russia and sales were halted amid export controls and congressional concern over shipments via Austria.

Five Dead In Navy Plane Crash Over Everglades
Five airmen including four Birmingham based reserve pilots and a Coast Guardsman died when three single engine Navy planes crashed during a violent storm. The 12 plane formation left Birmingham for Miami, with six reaching Miami and others diverting to Boca Raton and Naples. Search crews found the crashes after an intensive hunt. Shamrock Oil and Gas reports the No. 1 Wendland Ellenberger pool well in Guiterez Survey, 8 miles SE of Robert Lee and 8 miles SW of Bronte. Initial flow began Saturday with acid treatment, then 12 barrels per hour over four hours Sunday. The well bottomed at 6,251 feet with 60 feet clean oil and 130 feet heavy oil cut mud from an early DST. Swabbing after cleanup yielded 96 barrels daily with minimal water, 47 gravity oil, low gas-oil ratio, and potential 400 barrels per day if choke is opened. The Shamrock block covers 6,000 acres. Seaboard nearby also reports a water-producing well. Both firms plan additional drilling soon.
