A heated California Assembly debate centers on 27 Epics members within an 80 person group. The bill aims to curb unemployment and poverty while sparring over interstate migration and potential Supreme Court action.
A federal court jury in Lubbock will decide if Sheriff W. F. Cato and two Garza County men are guilty or innocent in the machine gun slaying of Narcotic Agent Spencer Stafford at Post. Co defendants include Tom Morgan and Dr. L. W. Kitchen. Dr. W. A. Hartman is to be acquitted.
May 30 report from Childress notes Molly Low No. 1 nine miles southeast failed to show in test. Swabbing at about 500 feet indicated 20 barrels in 20 minutes, gauge reading gravity 42 and temperature 76. Alma Oil Co officials led by Robert Watchorn attended with J R Porter amid large crowd and 300 cars.
A spring storm swelled Fountain and Monument Creeks turning Colorado Springs and Pueblo into torrents. Twelve or more people died or were listed as missing while two men were swept from a roof seeking safety. Bridges failed and power, gas and water were restored as floods raged from Kiowa Creek into Elbert.
Adolf Hitler offers Europe a draft for peace called Air Locarno. Copies go to Britain France Italy and Belgium, the four nations party to the Locarno pact. Britain studies the plan and may demand Germany join a general security pact and return to the League of Nations.
Rev. EB A Robinson at Municipal Auditorium lawn honors soldiers who gave their lives in defense of the country. The service, staged by Hanson Post of the American Legion, urged courage and duty amid pacifist pressures as Memorial Day observances continued.

Pastor Edgar Eskridge, a militant former federal agent, faces extradition after being accused of killing Orange Texas police chief Ed J. O'Reilly. Chicago officials awaited arrival of photographs from New Orleans to confirm if the man held is Warren C. Spurgin a 59 year old who vanished in 1921 after a bank he led showed a million dollar deficit. Fingerprints were sent by air but unlikely to match as none are on file. Spurgin faced charges of embezzlement forgery and receiving deposits after insolvency. Reports of his death varied saying he was killed by Mexican robbers or committed suicide in a Miami hotel.
Paraguay and Bolivia agreed to a 30 day truce in the three year Chaco War to settle the territorial dispute peacefully. Mediation involved Argentina and Brazil after lengthy talks between belligerents representatives.
Dr. James Zimmerman of the University of New Mexico spoke at Amarillo High School commencement to the Class of 1935. He termed a New Deal of the Old Realities, highlighting work, morality, freedom of speech, intellectual life, and courage as future essentials, urging opposition to cynicism.
Pine River Minnesota May 30 four children died after eating toad stools mistaken for mushrooms. Donald Young ten was among the victims as the family collected fungi believing them to be edible mushrooms.
Three young men robbed the First State Bank of about $5,000 in Texas May 30, locking two officials and a worker in the vault before fleeing in a small sedan. Police from Archer, Wichita, Baylor counties and Ranger Fred McDaniel pursued them as they headed west and then south toward New Castle in Young County.
University of Texas physics professor Dr Arnold Romberg said a seismograph at UT registered a violent earthquake today. Tremors began at 3 55 PM CST and peaked at 4 35 PM, with an estimated location more than 17 000 miles west likely in the Pacific Ocean. He called it a world shaker.
The Panhandle High School 32 piece band directed by C. W. Beene will play Friday June 7 at the Municipal Auditorium as part of the state convention of Young Democrat Clubs. Governor James V. Allred will speak. Elton Beene Rex Beene and Filton Beene noted performers will headline the program. The band arrives at 3 PM Friday and performs ahead of Governor Allred.

The Globe-News Company plans a full time daily radio service with KGNC call letters replacing KGRS and WDAG. Plains Radio Broadcasting Company led by Wilbur C Hawk and Gene A Howe purchased the stations. The 1410 kilocycle frequency will run 2500 watts daytime and 1000 watts at night.

An application to consolidate the times of two stations into one schedule awaits action by the FCC in Washington and is expected to be decided Tuesday. Earlier this month the commission approved the transfer of KGRS and WDAG licenses to Plains Radio Broadcasting Company. FE. B. Gish, owner of KGRS for over 12 years, has not revealed future plans, while J. L. Martin expanded WDAG from a small station.
William H Stayton of the American Liberty League urged citizens to oppose those attempting to alter the constitution in a radio speech on Memorial Day. He cited the NRA decision and warned voters to consider whether their party’s candidate has aided laws violating the Constitution.
