Shorty Cantlon finished second with Louie Schneider third, as 14 of 88 starters survived amid a series of crashes on the treacherous north turn. Tragic death ends long family misfortunes
Toe Gunter two year old son of Mr and Mrs W Gunter drowned in a farm tank eight miles south of Amarillo after being missing since 11 o clock. The family had just registered a newborn death days earlier while the mother lay bedridden and the father recovered from appendicitis. The neighbor who cared for the household found the child. funeral plans were not yet announced.

Tragedy at Sea: 10 Dead After Water Taxi Sinks Off Santa Monica
A water taxi carrying 59 passengers from two fishing barges overturned three quarters of a mile off Santa Monica. At least 10 were drowned with 36 rescued and rushed to hospitals after emergency treatment.
