A Texas conference committee rejected two proposed compromises on increased state aid to public schools. Speaker Bill Clayton said Gov. Dolph Briscoe would likely call a summer special session if a school finance bill is not in place before the regular session ends at midnight Monday.
In Southgate Kentucky the Beverly Hills Supper Club disaster killed 159 people with many bodies recovered from the three story brick building. Fire officials warn the toll may rise as debris is sifted by crane and a temporary morgue is set up. cause under investigation with officials citing possible basement origin and lack of sprinkler system.
