The Senate approved a four billion dollar yearly income tax cut 52 to 34, with most filers seeing 20 to 30 percent relief. The measure, retroactive to July 1, differs from the House version which would be effective January 1.
The House passed an $847,601,976 agriculture appropriation bill for 1948, with total reductions of $340,969,342 from the President's budget. A last minute 40 million dollar Section 32 addition was permitted, boosting the bill while overall cuts reached about 28.7 percent.
Bishop Selecman opened the 38th Northwest Texas Methodist Conference at Polk Street Methodist Church urging patience from pastors and churches in posturing for changes. Delegates elected Ray Nichols and E D Landreth to national bodies. several veterans sought retirement and four new ministers were voted full connection.

A grand jury indictment on eight counts of vote fraud followed a theft at the Kansas City Board of Election Commissioners vault. Thieves broke two steel doors and stole ballots poll books and tally sheets used in the August Democratic primary amid a broader probe into alleged ballot juggling. The incident occurred hours after the jury concluded its term and amid hearings on Attorney General Clark and a push for a full FBI investigation.
Mrs. Catherine Louise Roach age 95 died at 5 20 yesterday at the home of her son T L Jack Roach 2600 Washington. She fell September 21 1945 breaking a leg and had been bedbound since. Funeral Friday 7 pm at Blackburn Shaw Memorial Chapel with Dr Neal D Cannon officiating. Burial Llano Cemetery mausoleum. Survived by four sons Robert D Roach John E Roach George Roach and a daughter Myrtle H Spence 14 grandchildren. Known as Aunt Katie. Born December 10 1851 in Douglasville Georgia.
Mayor J. O. Trahan of Texas City told Michigan lawmakers the phrase dam yankees omits a word. He suggested the term should be dam-swell-yankees as he accepted a donated fire truck from a Lansing manufacturer to aid Texas City’s rebuilding after the earlier explosions.
A bill outlawing sympathy strikes and related boycotts moved to the governor for final action after House and Senate adopted a conference report. The eleemosynary appropriation bill of $27,313,052 for the next biennium also gained quick Senate approval, with House action delayed by desk-time rules concerns.
The Seventh Court of Civil Appeals in Amarillo will hear a Monday challenge to the Justice Precinct Three local option election held December 7. In Potter County west of Western Avenue and south of the Canadian River the dry vote was 154 to 136. The petition by Lance L. Pollard cites order phrasing and posting errors. Roy Snodgrass is among defendants. the case is Roy Snodgrass et al. The county court and 108th District Court both found the election valid. Briefs for Monday’s hearing have been prepared.
Dairy Day in Amarillo features top dairy animals from seven Panhandle counties including Potter Randall Carson Moore Armstrong Oldham and Deaf Smith Hall Medford chairs the agricultural committee. The program begins at 10 00 with public judging led by J P Smith and a balanced dairying talk by G G Gibson and R E Burleson.
Clovis goodwill delegation arrives in Amarillo today by two chartered buses and two private cars at 11 55. Mayor Lawrence Hagg and Virgil Paterson greet at the city limits and lead a police escort to Sixth and Polk where a formal welcome is given. Delegation is led by Bud Williams Clovis mayor Fred Brooksher chamber manager and R B McAllister KICA manager.
