Nine day Lake Meredith festival opens with fishing rodeo

A nine day festival at Lake Meredith opens with a fishing rodeo this morning and continues with events in Berger during the celebration. Memorial Day in Amarillo will be observed Monday with services at Poppy Field in Llano. Cemetery Chaplain Richard PD, Mayor of Amarillo Air Force Base, will deliver the memorial address.

A Globe and Mail report warns that devices from taps to tiny cameras form a growing arsenal for industrial espionage. Continental Telephone Supply Co. of New York is cited as a major supplier with EU, Brazil, and England offices, projecting 4.4 million dollars in sales this year.

Combined drivein and motel in Monte Vista

A Monte Vista feature combines a drivein theater with a motel so guests can watch films from their rooms as sound is piped in. Guests may close drapes and sleep if they wish. The idea comes from George Kelloff, a Trinidad native. Ky Seeks Buddhist Peace Talk Amid Saigon Tensions

Premier Nguyen Cao Ky extended a peace feeler to Buddhists and met under U.S. auspices with Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chanh Thi. Monks rejected the overture. Rioting by 2000 to 3000 anti-government demonstrators in Saigon led to tear gas and warnings. Hue fell to rebellion with 1000 loyal troops and 45 foreigners fleeing. In the Mekong Delta, Vietnamese troops claimed 94 Viet Cong killed and 50 captured in a series of battles.

Storms Bring Heavy Rain and Hail Across Panhandle

Thunderstorms walloped the southern Panhandle with heavy rain across Canyon where seven tenths of an inch fell in twenty minutes at 5 p.m. Pea sized hail east of town and a fire blamed on lightning damaged a farm home attic four miles east. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Bailey, Lamb, Hale and Floyd counties as more reports from Plainview and surrounding areas described heavy winds and localized flooding.

Air Force Starfighter Crash Kills West German Pilot

A West German Air Force F104G Starfighter crashed at Hobsten Air Field near the Dutch border on a training flight killing the pilot. It is the 56th crash of the Ameri can designed plane in five years, heightening criticism of the defense ministry and its ties to the United. The crash occurred after the aircraft overshot the runway and went through a fence.

Borger Lake Meredith Festival Opens With Games

Borger launches a nine day Lake Meredith Festival with a 6 a.m. fishing rodeo and a 1 30 p.m. civic carnival at the Aluminum Dome Coliseum. A Phillips County Club amateur golf tourney and a 9 p.m. festival dance are planned. The event closes June 5 with the Borger Boat and Ski Club Water Carnival.

Rusk Says No Cutback in U S Forces in Germany
