In Big Spring on May 26, the Northwest Texas Conference admitted sixteen young Methodist preachers on trial, the largest group in years according to Bishop W. C. Martin. The conference also voted nineteen into full connection, retired eight, and granted supernumerary relations to five. Names of admittees and those received into full connection are listed, with notes on sabbatical and retiral actions. several clergy changes include J. Carpenter readmitted and then retired at age 84, and Carl Moorehead withdrawing from the church.

Chicago transit officials say conductor William Liddell, 28, Negro, fled the scene of a gasoline truck crash that killed 32 and injured many. Witnesses describe jammed rear doors and a heaving blaze as the southbound street car struck the 8000 gallon fuel truck near a flooded viaduct. Police charged Liddell with leaving the scene as witnesses recount a chaotic evacuation through a smashed rear window.

Arlen White, 17, died at Lubbock Memorial Hospital after a fall from Floydada High School roof during a graduation celebration set of a slumber party. He had just received his diploma and played football, earning a News-Globe Player of the Week award. He is survived by his mother, brother, sister, and grandmother. funeral at Floydada Methodist Church with burial in Floydada Cemetery.
American Airlines poster illustrator John Falter recalls Amarillo days as he prepares new portraits for a national slick magazine campaign. He credits a photographic memory for spotting faces and plans to study Florentine masters in Italy before returning to signed work for American Airlines and a Bucks County base. Falter, born in Falls City Nebraska, trained at Kansas City Art Institute and the Art Students League in New York.
Raw north winds and 36 degree mornings failed to cool Dogie Days in Dumas as 6 000 to 9 000 people gathered at City Park for barbecue and old timers activities. Quarter horse races, a night rodeo, and a rain insurance policy framed a festival with Lions Club volunteers serving fare and local veterans recalling the past. A parade and events continue with regional participation and a motor caravan from Amarillo led by George Hammock.
Three people died in yesterday morning's two car crash at Amarillo Air Terminal corner. Thomas Vern Ferguson 18 Lefors ministerial student at Wayland College Plainview died in St Anthony's Hospital after head injuries. His father Vern Ferguson 44 Lefors and Harry Elmer Martin 41 of 919 Rusk also perished. Two others injured include Jack Allen McPeake 20 Pampa Wayland student in critical condition with severe head injuries though slightly improved. Mrs Ferguson suffered fractures and injuries but is not in critical condition. Martin a bridge foreman for an Amarillo contracting firm died at the scene. Final rites for Martin planned at Polk Street Methodist Church.
Walter Watts of the U S Weather Bureau says the plains will be partly to mostly cloudy today with no precipitation. Amarillo highs near 79 and lows around 41 while rainfall Thursday night was light across many towns including Childress Dalhart and Claude. Crosbyton received 1.64 inches and Amarillo reported a record May 26 low of 39 degrees.
Final rites for Odelle S Harris pioneer Amarillo grocer who died Friday morning at Northwest Texas Hospital will be held Monday at 2 PM in First Baptist Church with Dr J Howarn Williams of Dallas officiating. Burial is in Llano Cemetery. Harris 63 lived at 1504 Travis and left a last grocery chain developed with his father and brothers. He also ran a ranch near Clayton New Mexico and is survived by three sons Odelle Jim Tom and Robert Harris, wife Elizabeth, sister Mary McCormic of Denton and daughter Mrs L P Babb Jr of Amarillo. He was active in the Gideon Bible Class and New Mexico Cattle Growers Association.
