Pilot Describes First Battle With Planes
Rio de Janeiro May 26 The sinking of a second enemy submarine off Brazil by a B 18 bomber of the United States Air Patrol was reported today by a high source Pilot Harry Schwane and Bomber Sergeant J G Yates described the earlier sinking of the first U boat off Fernando Noronha north of Recife They sighted the submarine from their plane on patrol and attacked with bombs and additional planes joining in The submarine was on the surface and fought back but oil and wreckage were seen on the water The Air Patrol officers credited the bombing and said the B 18 should reach base shortly
