Baltimore May 26 The Republican state convention named Maryland's 19 delegates to the national convention and instructed them to vote for President Hoover. The gathering refused to adopt a resolution calling for a referendum on the prohibition question.

Washington May 26 Senate rewrote the revenue bill in a flurry of votes leaving about 66 million dollars short of the budget balance goal though excise rates near 100 million were restored. Khiva Temple Comic Parade Opens Spring Ceremonial

The Khiva Temple comic parade marks a main feature of the Spring Ceremonial in downtown. Starting at the Masonic Temple at 5:15 pm, it travels Fillmore Street Third Avenue Polk Street Tenth Avenue Taylor Street Fifth Avenue to the temple. Nobles and novices including Potentate Guy A. Commission To Call Special Ballot for Mayor's Post Today

Amarillo will elect a new mayor within two to three weeks as the city commission fixes the special election date today. Col. Ernest O. Thompson will resign as mayor to join the Texas Railroad Commission, with his resignation to be submitted at the next regular session. The commission will also hold a hearing on the Sixteenth Avenue improvement proposal at 2 30. Thompson had said he would run for congressman at large but now plans to seek reappointment to the railroad commission. The mayoral term runs to April next year amid strong interest in the special election and the Taxpayers League report.

Texas counties seek state to assume highway bonds

Panhandle gas royalty owners led by the E. B. Johnson and Sons estate sue Texoma Natural Gas Co in 84th district court at Stinnett seeking 10 cents per thousand cubic feet for gas, plus share of gasoline proceeds. The suit claims underpayment, improper measurement, and improper volume calculations, backed by the Panhandle Gas Royalty Owners Association.

Maniac Stabs Girl to Death in Cleveland

Eight year old Elaine Macken is killed as a man with two knives attacks schoolchildren. Jacob Gordon, 38, dubbed Mystery Jake, is captured and held for questioning. Rose Marie Parker, 8, and Lena De San, 12, were seriously wounded as bystanders shouted and children fled the scene.

Man Trades Leg for Gasoline in Centralia Incident

In Centralia Illinois a gasoline station owner H C Gildehaus traded fuel for a prank. A visitor offered his right leg and presented a wooden leg as payment. The applicant received gasoline and planned to reclaim the limb later.

Testimony showed Mayor James J Walker cashed two $25 000 checks in June 1927 then Sherwood deposited similar sums in a secret trustee account. Walker denied any business link with Sherwood and said Sherwood was not his agent.
