Not Guilty On Cigarette Theft Charges In Amarillo Case
An instructed verdict of not guilty was returned yesterday afternoon in the interstate cigarette theft case involving Richard Fitzger ald, Louis M. Blackwell, Floyd E. Foster and Thomas B. Triplett of Amarillo. Judge James C. Wilson halted the trial after ruling the government evidence failed to connect any defendant to the cigarettes. All four defendants were released immediately, Triplett having earlier pleaded guilty, which the judge set aside. The trial had lasted a day and a half with government witnesses. Sentencing of B. G. Puntney, found guilty last week on related charges, continued on page 13.
