H D Porter aged 72, a prominent Amarillo Panhandle cattleman, died in a Tucson hospital after his car overturned in an irrigation ditch. He told police he fell asleep at the wheel while alone. Surviving include his widow Cora and son George A Porter. Funeral arrangements pending. Porter had been in business since 1916, formerly in Oklahoma City, and had offices with his son in Amarillo.
Amarillo Chamber of Commerce president Col. E A Simpson was authorized to pursue a USO building on the old Weather Bureau site at Seventh Avenue and Taylor Street. The decision follows word the Weather Bureau property is available and no application has yet been filed.
