Leonard Nussbaum, president of Amarillo Bus Co., has given Amarillo until June 10 to exercise an option to purchase the bus company for 168,458 dollars. City officials say they oppose taking over the company but may be compelled to, per city actions noted in Our Town.

Johnson Debt Limit Request Slash Hits House Panel

Washington AP President Johnson saw his request for a four billion dollar rise in the national debt ceiling cut in half by the House Ways and Means Committee to a three hundred thirty billion limit. The panel cited an optimistic Senate committee staff report that revenues will exceed Treasury forecasts and that deficits may shrink to two point five billion for the current year and possibly a surplus next year. The measure moves to the full House in about two weeks as Republicans criticize administration spending.

Suspect Held in Dallas Girl's Slaying

In Dallas a 23-year-old former Pennsylvania resident was arrested after the body of Jill Suthe Haslett, 18, was found. Authorities say she was suffocated, not raped, with the killer wearing pajamas. Fugitive in Slaying Surrenders in Arkansas Swamp

Glenn Stewart, wanted for the dismemberment slaying of Indiana factory worker Larry Schmidt, emerged from southwest Arkansas woods late Tuesday and surrendered to State Police Officer Bill Ingram. Schmidt's widow Edith, held on a preliminary first degree murder charge, witnessed the surrender after 16 days in captivity.

Downed Pilot Slain by Reds in Central Highlands

Viet Cong guerrillas apparently killed a U.S. Air Force pilot after his observation plane went down about 25 miles north of Pleiku in the Central Highlands. Another American pilot was rescued after a separate downing over North Viet Nam. Navy planes bombed near Saigon to deter a Viet Cong force massing west of the Tan Son Nhut airbase.
