Detachable collars linger among Amarillo men

In Amarillo about two dozen men still wear detachable collars. Jinks Mode, a U S deputy marshal, says he never wears a shirt with an attached collar and buys collars separately. Blackburn Bros still stocks collarless shirts and collars with about 12 regular buyers. Kenneth's Men's Wear in San Jacinto carries them but rarely sells any. R J Stovall of Kress no longer wears detachable collars but kept many in church.

Quitting Ahead: Amarillo Ambulance Veteran Griggs Turns 80

NEL GRIGGS, a longtime Amarillo citizen who drove ambulances and funeral cars for over 50 years, will be 80 on June 3. The Senate voted 54 to 39 to override Eisenhower's veto on an 8.6 percent postal pay rise, short of a two thirds majority.
