Dr. Rue P. Parcells Dies at 67 in Chicago Hospital
Dr. Rue P. Parcells a longtime Amarillo dentist and civic leader died in a Chicago hospital after surgery. He was 67 and had practiced here about 40 years. A Northwestern graduate and former football official, he came to Amarillo in 1914. Funeral plans were set for Friday pending Boxwell Brothers arrangements.

Tension High Along Borders Of Guatemala
Guatemala faced growing strain as it received arms from Iron Curtain states while the United States rushed light weapons to Nicaragua and Honduras under defense accords. Rain Soaks High Plains in Panhandle Flooding
Rain from a stalled system drenched the Panhandle with cloudbursts flooding roads and fields and washing out early cotton and maize. Minor to moderate damage reported across Hall, Lamb, Swisher counties with a 30 mile corridor from Olton to near Kress. Weather officials expect fronts to ease, sun by afternoon, and temperatures to rise from the 57 high.

Viking XI Reaches Record Altitude at White Sands
A Viking XI test rocket, built by Glenn L. Martin Co, soared to a record 158 miles at White Sands NM, topping prior Viking versions by 22 miles and reaching 4300 mph. The instrumented rocket, launched by the Navy, gathered atmospheric data and sent it to receivers in New Mexico.
